Okuma Convector CV-30DLX linecounter levelwind reel
This reel is my goto reel for all of my big rods. I personally pair this reel with a 10’6″ rod and load it with 60lb braided fishing line. Normally I would troll for salmon on the Columbia River with this set-up but I have also sturgeon many times with this. I have never had this reel fail on me. The reel is easy to use and comes in both right and left handed models, I personally use the left handed model.
There is only two things I have issue with, it is a very large reel and over time the line counter can start skipping or fail all together. I have rebuilt a few of these reels with new drag washers and had a few rebuilt at a shop. Never has one of these reels gone in the trash. Like everyone else I have more rods in the garage than I should. I have everything from super cheap to upper mid range cost but I skip the high end. I fish with friends and rods get broken so I need tough equipment that will hold up and a warranty is a plus. These rods have the qualities I am looking for. First off performance is exactly what I am looking for with the ability to troll a heavy weight(up to 24oz.) and a soft enough tip to see when a smaller fish(like a coho) is biting.
I use many sizes of this pole for different areas but because I can fish any big water with this pole it is my number one. These poles have a replacement warranty but you have to pay for shipping, there is more than one way to do it so if you brake one check the berkley website. 100LB Stainless Steel Wire Leaders (bumpers) 20ct
This is the best bumpers ever…… I have been using these for years and they are great. There is three colors availible so I normally use red but black is a great color. I personally have never broke one of these and never ruined one either. They don’t spin like any type of fishing line so you can troll them forever. My favorite thing about these bumpers is when your stuff gets all tangled up you just unsnap your gear, drop it on the floor and pick your bumper out of the mess.
